Project: Experience in Generative AI
Rule 39: Generative AI is cruise control for cool.
Rule 40: Even with cruise control you still have to steer.
Through self-directed learning about generative AI, I've developed a practical and responsible approach to using tools like ChatGPT in my work.
I treat AI as a "power assist" tool for areas where I sometimes struggle—such as writing professional documents or generating ideas when I'm stuck on a coding task. This allows me to focus on creativity, ensure the content is accurate and meaningful, and preserve my personal voice.
I've applied this technology to create professional case studies for this portfolio. (Including this very article!) ChatGPT helped me overcome writer's block, spot subtle grammatical issues, and cut my writing time in half—all while increasing my confidence in the final product.
In a future article, I'll share my prompting process to help others use generative AI more effectively.
While I'm not aiming to become a content writer—technical writing remains my focus—I make a point to learn from each interaction with AI. I've come to recognize an important distinction: becoming a better writer is not the same as becoming a better user of writing tools. I feel this nuance is often overlooked with AI-enthusiastic, yet is essential for responsible and effective use.
With this hands-on experience, I'm ready to apply creative thinking and AI-supported workflows to solve problems and streamline processes on technical or operations teams. I'd be glad to share more if you're interested.
